My SharePoint Presentations from SQL Saturday #8
Creating and Publishing InfoPath Forms
This session will take a quick overview of how to create a typical user form using InfoPath for deployment in SharePoint so that it displays in the user's web browser. It will also take a look at creating reusable controls for your InfoPath forms and how you can use data from a SharePoint list to display in a browser-based report. (Presenter's Notes after session: This was way to much for a 1 hour session. I probably will split this into separate topics and may get the opportunity to do the rest perhaps at a Code Camp SharePoint session in spring of 2009 here in Orlando.)
Using Excel Services with SharePoint
This session will look at publishing Excel spreadsheets to the web using SharePoint and Excel Services. It will show how to view the Excel spreadsheet in a web browser and how to publish portions of the spreadsheet in a web part on a stardard web page. It will also look at how to create parameterized views of the data as well as how to use data connections from other data sources such as SQL Server to provide a data source for the Worksheet content. (Presenter's notes after session: Did not have time to get into the use of data sources and could have spend more time on web part usage. However, again, I may be able to expand on these areas in a future SQL Saturday or Code Camp in 2009)
Sharepoint Disaster Recovery
This session will discuss and illustrate various disaster recovery methods. It will begin with a look at how the two-stage Recycle Bin and Versioning can help with simple content recovery from accidental changes and deletions. Next it will explore the basic site collection and farm backup from Central Administration and SQL Server. A look into STSADM will show how it can backup individual sites or the entire farm. And a quick look at SharePoint Designer will show how it can also be used to backup sites. (Presenter's notes after session: This presentation relied mostly on PowerPoint slides due to the time needed to actually perform backups. However, I will try to post either some images and/or scripts for STSADM in the coming weeks.)
The following are my PowerPoint Slides from SQL Saturday #8 on October 25, 2008
